We started our "staycation" by taking Lily to her very first movie...Toy Story 3. We ended the night by taking the kids bowling in Oceanside and giving them each a dollar to blow on video games or prizes. We then went on to my mom's house where we stayed for the next two days, in order to have a fun family vacation the inexpensive way.
Day two of our staycation was spent at the famous Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach. I hadn't been there in years. The kids loved the glass makers and live music. I enjoyed seeing all the artwork (some good, some bad), and running into a few familiar faces (Kaitlyn Evans, Jessie Bartell). Afterward, we took a drive up to my old house on Nestall street, and drove around Top of the World Elementary. That night, we had Ruby's shakes and french fries and onion rings for dinner, and watched our first firework show to music. It was really beautiful.
Day three we decided to head on down to Balboa Island. It was a freeeeeezing day....the first of many in the coldest summer in over 50 years. Each of the kids had a blast blowing quarters in the video arcade and then we headed to our favorite restaurant of all times, The Crab Cooker. It was so much fun watching the kids enjoy such foods as shrimp, fish, crab, and clam chowder. For dessert we stopped at the ice-cream shop along our favorite walk on the Newport Beach boardwalk. YUM YUM. Such good times....
